Rolfing is a scientifically validated manual manipulation of soft tissues (fascia) in the body. Its purpose is to bring about the body’s natural upright alignment that we are inherently born with. Fascia is an excitable gel like substance making up an intricate network of fibers that extends into every microscopic reach of the body. It is the glistening white stuff on leg of lamb. Its role is to separate and unite compartments of the body. (Like muscles, nerves, arteries and bone.) The fascia becomes restricted through disease, injury, surgery, dehydration and emotional trauma. Through pressure, manipulation, and movement of the body, the fascia can soften and the restrictions disappear. Our bodies have an incredible memory. That car accident that you had at sixteen while learning how to drive is still stuck in your back and neck. Now, twenty years later there are “unexplainable” pains in your body. When the body is brought into order or balance it works more efficiently. When the body works more efficiently it can heal itself
