THE RETREAT: Sat 14 Jan - Tue 24 Jan 2012

This retreat is designed to eliminate the day-to-day mundane worries of the students by engaging them in a nonstop cycle of practice. Even though there is plenty of ‘free time’ during the retreats, we wish to keep the participants very much within the zone of spiritual contemplation throughout the retreat. This ten day retreat is for a small group of students where each of the students gets personal and individualized attention. These retreats evaluate the spiritual quests and desires of each participant individually and provide practice modules to suit their exact needs. Whenever it is necessary, the past-life spiritual experience of a student is traced.

The retreat serves the needs of the students as well as our own. The students get the opportunity to ask questions and discuss their practices with Manmoyanand one-on-one. Every student can have an evaluation of their previous practices and acquire a module for future practices. The retreat serves us to seek and find genuine seekers who we wish to teach all the way to Samadhi.

THE TEACHER:

Yogi Manmoyanand is one of the few living teachers of the Saraswati lineage and the only one to teach outside the ashrams in the Himalayas. Being a spiritual seeker since childhood, he has travelled all over India and has studied with most of the prominent spiritual as well as religious teachers. He has constantly asked the simplest yet most demanding questions to all the teachers he met to fulfill his quest. In this journey he came to realize the futility of religion and the hypocrisy of spiritual philosophy. Before he gave up his quest, he was taken by one of the most prominent figures of the Sastradhari Saraswati lineage, Yogi Angadanand Saraswati, and was given teaching. He lived amongst a group of ascetic yogis in the caves of the Himalayas and practised yoga in the same format as the ascetics.

Manmoyanand studied the science of spirituality in the format of the Yoga Sutras along with the Vedantic, Sankhya and Tantric methods. After the successful accomplishment of the practices and experiencing Samadhi, his teacher chose him to carry forward the teachings on behalf of the lineage. Manmoyanand accepted this responsibility out of respect and obedience for his teacher and lineage. After the Samadhi of his teacher, Manmoyanand began to travel outside the ashram to teach. His students primarily comprise of the ascetic yogis of his ashram. He also teaches seekers of preparatory stages from other parts of the country and suitable students from the west.

He has been teaching for more than twelve years, over the period of which he has come to realize the sad fact of dilution and commercialization of yoga. In the recent years he has chosen to teach an increasingly less amount of students to preserve the purity of the practices. As a part of the ancient lineages, Manmoyanand considers it to be his sacred responsibility to spread the correct knowledge of Yoga and at the same time, denounce all incorrect and inauthentic teaching and practices.

If you are a seeker with a genuine quest for knowledge, studying with Manmoyanand can be a very delightful experience.
