Yoga for Kids

Adults are often looking for ways to relieve the stress in their lives, but they seldom stop to consider that their children are under stress too. Children can feel like they are not in control of their lives much the same way adults do from time to time. They can feel overwhelmed and lost. Yoga can help children in many ways. It can improve the quality of their lives just as much as it does for adults.

In children yoga does many things. It can help them with their self awareness and increase self confidence. For children with trouble concentrating it can help them focus and help with their left and right brain coordination. Aside from helping with concentration it can also help children relax. This combination is especially helpful for children with ADD or ADHD. Yoga can help them in school and their daily activities without using harsh drugs. Talk to your doctor about starting your child in a regular yoga practice before you consider drugs.

Children need at least an hour of activity everyday. Yoga is a very beneficial activity to choose. It will improve your child's flexibility and strength and it can help with their coordination as well. The exercise that they are getting for their bodies is also helping them understand that healthy people can come in all shapes and sizes. Yoga also teaches children that taking care of the body is important and can lead them to make better food choices.

Yoga is good for children's minds too. It can teach them to relax and can help them get a better nights sleep. Being relaxed and getting good sleep is an important step towards doing well in school. The relaxation response is stronger in children who practice yoga and they are better at holding themselves accountable for their actions.

Yoga is a great activity for children who are not interested in competitive sports. Children who are involved in competitive sports will benefit from yoga as well. They will be more disciplined and have stronger muscles. When a game gets close they are able to maintain their calm and keep their heads on straight. Children are also allowed to express their creativity in yoga classes and they can be a good opportunity to learn and grow as people.
