Diary of a Yoga retreat - Day 5 - pm class
We start with the strengthening exercises and even though it's day 2 of my period I find these exercises uplifting. The abdominal exercises work well for me. After having my two children I realize the importance of a strong core. We do these strengthening postures to realign and strengthen the spine and internal muscles and I am aware that I do feel the benefits of this.
Even though I am tired I persevere . I listen to the words of my teacher. I attempt to continue with the class. I do this of course, I am not one to stop whilst everyone else moves. Invigorating it is. Half an hour to three quarters of an hour passes.
Then we sit for pranayama (controlled breathing exercises). I love pranayama. It is great. Now, that we are on day 5 I am finding that the breathing has become easier. It is more simple to follow her voice and sit. My hips are screaming rather loudly though I must say. I am feeling it strongly in the hips after 5 days of sitting cross legged and singing every day. It's ok though. I understand that it will pass.
I uncross my legs out of lotus into half lotus. Sitting comfortably cross legged. We then begin to sing. 5 afternoons have passed so far. Half an hour each day of singing. I am beginning to lose my inhibitions. I am actually starting to carry a tune.
It is liberating and delightful. I feel god is listening to me. We finish and at the end of all of this my teacher chants to us. It is a beautiful chant she sings ;three times. It is amazing the quality of her voice. Mantras invoke magic and it is the repetition that gives them their power. She is a shining example of mantra and practice at work. I make a note to myself to continue with the chanting, however, cringeful I find it.
Heart rendering. I feel to cry and blink back tears. Listening to her, she is a delight. Today she is the embodiment of yoga. Again I am grateful and I realize that extreme luck in which I find myself here. In Bali, practicing yoga twice a day and feeling fine.
It is a beautiful life for me. Yoga helps me to remember how very fortunate I am.
