Motherhood is one of the most wonderful experiences of a woman’s lifetime. It is also one of the most testing. The arrival of a new born baby is so amazing and life changing but also a time that many women experience new emotions and challenges.

Yoga for new mums is a really fantastic way for mums to get a break. Many new mothers feel guilty about wanting a break from their delightful new babies and this is understandable. The effort needed to raise a new baby is huge and mother’s bodies provide the mainstay of life support for a new child. Attending a yoga class without your baby is one way to give back to yourself. Now, mums and bubs classes are also wonderful but attending a yoga class by yourself is a fantastic way to realign the body and give back to the soul.

It is not just new mums that will welcome some peace and quiet for themselves. Mothers of children of all ages feel good and appreciate the benefits that yoga can bring.

I have had the lucky experience to begin teaching yoga during the week at the time of 9.30am. This seems to be a great time for mums to attend. They drop their kids off at school and head down to the hall by the beach for 1 hour of stretching and opening their hearts. All the women who attend my classes are mothers and they bond first of all through their shared motherhood. Starting the class can take a few minutes as they all share the week’s adventures of the various children in their varying ages.

Delightful bonding through motherhood is a sincere way to connect. All mothers understand what is necessary to get children through the day and a happy heart at the end of it. It requires a lot of output for these women and this time of the week is when they recharge themselves.

Beginning slowly, they awaken their bodies and breath and we all begin to come together through the magic of yoga. It only takes a few minutes until we are all uniting as women, reigniting the forces that make them the people that they are, individuals, unconnected to anyone but themselves and their hearts.

Yoga is a great and unique way to access your own internal magic and so very quickly these women begin to feel the magic of yoga and what makes them tick. One of my ladies always says our yoga classes are her safe space for the week, a place where she can let go and look after herself.

This is what a mother needs. Recharging and connecting. We all understand what it takes to grow children and to acknowledge that it is a big job is great. Yoga gives people the power to awaken their bodies and be present in the moment. It is this awareness that powers the soul and allows these women to take new found strength back to their families and give them the energy they need to feel safe and secure. If everyone in the family is feeling as though they are looked after, this process can be smooth and fulfilling.

Yoga is a wonderful tool to open the heart and recharge the soul. Mothers need this and allowing themselves the space to attend a yoga class, alone, just themselves and their soul is a gift that should be shared.

Grab another mum and find a class you like, yoga is also fun and exciting. Learning new things at any age is quite illuminating. Have a try and see if you like it.
