YOGA AND FOOD - PREPARING FOOD WITH AWARENESS AND ENERGY

It has been some time now that I have been practicing yoga with constant regularity.  I am feeling the benefits from most aspects of my life.  Eating is something I do every day and I am realizing that bringing yoga into my food and food preparation is making a big difference to me and therefore my family.

Food is what keeps us alive.  That and water and air.  But food is the main ingredient to a healthy and vibrant body.  What we choose to eat and how we prepare the food and subsequently eat it also has a huge affect on all of us.

For sometime now I have been choosing to eat rather healthily and include my family in this.  I have 2 children, aged 3 and 6 and they are also awakening to the benefits of eating healthily.

I did not grow up with much food awareness or much nutritional awareness so this is something fantastic and new for me.

When preparing food, take the time to choose it well and think about who and where you will eat your food.  We eat normally, around 3 times a day and can become blasé about how we do it and how we prepare it.

My children have become very good teachers to me in this food preparation.  I am a mother and it is part of my job to provide them with adequate food for each day.  I have now chosen to prepare each and every meal for them with love and awareness.

I am making breakfast for them is every day and I have decided to do it with my heart open.  How many times can you make porridge and keep it fresh?  Well every time if you choose to.  It is very simple to place my energy on their porridge whilst it cooks.  I stand at the stove and hum out loud or within a simple chant or mantra.  This is sometimes too much if the household is busy and noisy so I easily place my loving energy on the saucepan holding the porridge.  Infusing it with my love makes a huge difference to the kids and they munch it down very quickly.

Preparing their lunch for school also takes no longer to do it with awareness.  My daughter comes home with an empty lunch box when I do this and take the time.  When I don't, I have noticed that she doesn't always feel to eat it.  I question her why she left the food and she often says she just didn't feel to eat it.

Energy is real and vital and plays a most important part in our daily lives.  Take the time to make each action you take conscious and full of awareness and all of you will feel the difference.

Food prepared with love and gratitude is food that will fill the soul and awaken awareness that is there all the time. Why waste it, why not use what we are given?

My family is happier now that I am cooking with love.  Love is easily shared and my yoga practice helps me to remember this.  We eat every day and it is the simple things that start to change us and make a difference.  It only takes around one week of cooking with consciousness for it to develop into a habit.  One week is not very long to bring about the changing of your life and life long habits to be built for the kids.

Now I am cooking like this all the time.  Simple and true.  Love in your food is yoga for the soul.  Keep cooking!!!!.
