Yoga clothing - which top to wear?
Attending a yoga class should be a very enjoyable experience and for most of us it is. Wearing the correct top for the type of exercise will enable most women to feel comfortable. It seems a funny question, what kind of top to wear and something that I had not thought about much before I started my yoga journey.
I very quickly realized that by wearing an ill fitting top to class my enjoyment factor could come right down. I had the misfortune at the beginning of my yoga life to wear some funny tops to class. I was in the middle of my high fashion phase of life and thought the funkier the better in all fields. Not correct at all. The first top I chose was loose around the breasts and I found myself feeling very uncomfortable in the whole of the suryanamaskara routines. Boobs falling out everywhere is not what I wanted to experience. My class mates no doubt also were aware of my predicament. Hard to miss actually.
Before starting yoga think about the style of top you might like to wear. I find that a close fitting one is the best. Made from fabric that has a good stretch and can move well with the body. This does not mean that you have to rush out and buy yourself a very expensive sport tank top straight away. Check in your wardrobe and see what you have. Staying covered and inside your top is the first way to a successful experience. We want the yoga to colour your class, not you constantly pulling at your clothing.
Think also about the kind of fabric you will be wearing. How natural is it? Many cotton stretch fabrics are great to wear and will allow your body to breathe and not overheat. Most yoga classes are 1 – 1.5 hours and this is long enough to heat up your body and many synthetic fabrics do not allow the cooling of the body to happen.
Supplex is a new modern fabric that wicks the perspiration away from the body, allowing the wearer to stay cool and feel comfortable no matter how hard they are working out. www.divinegoddess.net manufactures many tops in this fabric and are worth looking at.
The length of the top is also a factor for many women. I like to wear a top to yoga class that sits on my hips. Not too short so my tummy is hanging out. I have had 2 children now and don’t feel as confident as I once did about letting my belly hang out during class. If my top finishes on my hips I am not pulling it down constantly and can concentrate far better on my yoga class. That is why I am there right?
Take it easy at the start of attending yoga classes and use what you have. Enjoy the yoga and feel good from moving your body. Once you are in the swing of things and really enjoying your yoga practice you can start to look around and see what is on offer in your town as far as exercise clothing is concerned. There are some very lovely yoga clothes available these days and many of them are available on the net which is easy for home shopping.
