Yoga for improving football skills

Yoga for improving football skills

A sore back, weak footwork and lack of focus are common problems for footballers. All of the problems can be remedied with yoga practice. Taking up a regular yoga practice can help improve flexibility, strength, balance and mind control. You will see improvements to your game on may levels. Yoga practice should be done more than just before and after a game. It will improve your playing, but it can also improve your overall quality of life.

One of the first benefits of yoga that comes to mind is the increased flexibility. Flexible muscles are harder to injure and a regular practice of yoga is a great start to prevent injuries. Increased flexibility will help you move more efficiently and easily out on the field. Yoga increased flexibility by gently stretching your muscles. Poses should be done most days of the week to get the most benefit from your practice.

Strong muscles will help you with your kicking and will give you more stamina throughout the game. You need excellent balance to play your best. Good posture will keep your back from aching and will improve your game overall. Yoga is known to be exceptional for strengthening core muscles. Most poses strengthen more than just core muscles. You will find your entire body getting stronger including your legs, arms, chest, pelvis and shoulders.

Injury prevention is a by product of all of the aforementioned benefits. Your muscles will be stronger and more flexible. Having good balance reduces the chance of injuries from trips and falls. Better mind control is also a product of regular yoga practice. You cannot focus on your game if you are constantly anxious and nervous. Yoga and yoga breathing exercise can quiet your mind before a game and can help you deal with stress from your everyday life. This in turn will help keep you focused on the game instead of worrying about events outside of the game.

If you have not practiced yoga before it is advisable to take a few lessons to make sure you are doing the poses correctly before your begin a home practice. You may even find that you like the classes and want to continue them. If you are not able to attend classes there are many good beginner yoga DVD's available that will teach your proper form and breathing techniques.
