Yoga Retreats - practicing yoga on holidays is fun
As yoga increases in popularity in the western world so do the opportunities to experience yoga on many different levels for the common person.
Yoga holidays and retreats are also becoming more popular in recent times. These holidays or retreats can vary in time from 2 days to 2 weeks. Often the location can be a beautiful tropical island such as Bali, Fiji, Costa Rica or some luxurious hotel.
The schedule for the retreats/holidays are full and varied and are an interesting way to pamper oneself and also to deepen the practice of yoga for the participant. It is not always possible for most people to make it to the yoga room and practice solidly every day for a week or two. On these retreats that is possible and most people feel their bodies moving in ways they may not have before. This is very inspiring and can often lead to a more constant practice for the participant once they return to their "real lives".
Often the food accompanying these retreats is wholistic and regenerating and the participant will get the opportunity to feel the affects of this healthy eating, every day with someone else cooking for them. Eating raw food for 2 days, 1 week or even 2 weeks has a great affect on the body and the participant will not only feel great but gain an understanding on the way the food affects them. Again, this can often encourage the student to find ways to incorporate this type of healthy eating into their lives and diet.
Most retreats have a morning practice of yoga, which can be quite strong and an afternoon one also. This afternoon one will often be a more gentle class than the morning practice, aimed at calming the body, breath and mind and winding down for the end of the day. Pranayama (breath control and exercises) are a great way to calm the nervous system and also align the spine, bringing the body into balance. An opportunity to practice pranayama every day for a set amount of time (2 days, 1 week, 2 weeks) will bring results very quickly and often release feelings of bliss and joy. Taking this tool home to nurture and grow is an exciting gift to oneself.
In the time off during the day, most retreats/holidays have massage practitioners available. Pampering yourself after a good yoga practice and delicious healthy breakfast is a fantastic way to put energy back into your body and just bliss out. Massages are a great way to calm and soothe sore muscles and get them ready for the next day's practice. Soothing to the soul and gentle on the heart, it is a delicious way to spend a morning.
Lying by the pool and reading a book, lunching with new friends or just shopping in a small village are delightful way to spend the time not in the studio or yoga room.
Yoga retreats and holidays are a great way for single people to meet same minded others and a very nice way for a couple to enjoy some time together. There are many retreats and holidays on offer at this time, start looking and book your flights.
