Yoga Teachers - finding the right one

Yoga Teachers - finding the right one

FINDING THE RIGHT YOGA TEACHER

When you are starting yoga for the first time, it can be quite intimidating. Where to look for a yoga class? What type of yoga do you want to try? What kind of teacher would work well with you? Woman or man? The list of questions can be endless and unless you actively start to look you can talk yourself out of even going to one class.

One of the first things to remember when thinking of starting yoga and looking for a teacher is that yoga is not just about touching your toes and looking good. Yoga is about synchronising the breath and movement and calming the mind. When this starts to happen the sweetness in all of us can start to be unlocked and feelings of bliss can pervade our life. Sounds good doesn't it. Well anyone can do it, it is just not that hard.

Most local papers have advertisements for the yoga schools in your region so start looking there first. There are many styles of yoga and calling the school and asking about these styles and what might suit you is a good way to begin. Maybe you would feel better starting with a same sex teacher or maybe the opposite sex would feel more appropriate. Whatever you decide, it is up to you as you are the one experiencing the yoga for the first time.

So now you have decided on the first class you would like to attend. Make sure you do, don't just find the class and put the paper down. Go along and see what it is all about.

I found my first major yoga teacher, and the teacher I would come to practice with for the next 10 years by accident in a café. This I think is magic at work. Sometimes yoga finds you and you must follow. A friend introduced me and I loved her classes, couldn't stop going. So ask some friends that do practice yoga what their teacher is like and where they may teach. Often like minded friends will enjoy the same style of class so check your friends classes out.

If you can see the magic or the shine in a teacher that is usually enough to start to unlock the light in you. This is really what yoga is about. We all have a light within us and yoga can actually be a way to learn how to unlock your own. This is fantastic and when you do start to do this, you will feel it. You will not need anyone to tell you that magic is at work, you will just know. You will know.
